RIYADH: The international regulatory body for yoga and yogasana, the Yoga Global Federation, officially commenced operations following its inaugural general session. Delegates and member nations from all five continents convened virtually in a display of global unity to ratify the federation’s inception and certify its initial leadership.
The summit affirmed the appointment of a leadership team with strong diplomatic and sporting knowledge, including Shaikha Al-Sabah (Kuwait), a recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri award, as president and Alwaleed Alkeaid (Saudi Arabia), an oscar-winning sport manager, as secretary-general. The first important milestone in the organization’s sporting schedule was then announced the federation has set June 2026 as the date for its first international yoga championship.
The competition, which may coincide with the annual International Day of Yoga on June 21, will give athletes from around the world a platform and usher in a new era of competitive opportunities for the sport. We have brought the yoga community together under one roof today,” stated Al-Sabah.
We are genuinely a global family, with members coming from Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Oceania. Together with our secretary-general, Alwaleed Alkeaid, we look forward to inviting the globe to our maiden championship in 2026.
