The Slovak Ambassador Emphasizes Deepening Relations With Saudi Arabia

RIYADH: To commemorate his nation’s national holiday, the ambassador of Slovakia to Saudi Arabia threw a lavish celebration. According to Rudolf Michalka, who spoke to Arab News, Slovakia reclaimed its independence and started establishing a democratic government on November 17. “On this day, the people of Slovakia made the decision to seize control and fight for their independence,” he continued. Slovakia and the Czech Republic have remained strong allies even after the breakup of the former Czechoslovakia.

Michalka clarified that Czechoslovakia was a member of the Eastern Bloc and lacked sovereignty, but the people deemed freedom to be more significant. As part of what became known as the Velvet Revolution, they took to the streets and gathered in peace for weeks despite the cold.

According to Michalka, he cherished Slovakia as an island of independence and a free spirit. “This is what Nov. 17 means to me — a united Europe, celebrating its diversity, promoting peace and stability not only in the region but across the world, and fostering tolerance, cooperation, fairness, and honesty,” he continued, adding that he was delighted to have his Saudi friends join in the festivities.
