Riyadh: To mark the 50th anniversary of the start of diplomatic ties between the two nations, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Riyadh organized a tree-planting campaign in cooperation with the Riyadh Municipality and Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
An embassy official informed Arab News that the embassy is planning a number of events to mark the golden jubilee of diplomatic relations.
Embassy employees, Sri Lankan Ambassador Omar Lebbe Ameer Ajwad, Himali De Costa of the country’s Ministry of Environment, and Dulanji Herath of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism were among the authorities who took part in the tree-planting event.
Senior officials from the Riyadh Municipality, members of the Sri Lankan community in Riyadh, and employees and pupils of the Sri Lanka International School in Riyadh also took part.
The director of volunteer services at the Riyadh Municipality, Ghada binth Abdullah Al-Omran, thanked the Sri Lankan community for their enthusiastic involvement and the Sri Lankan Embassy for starting the project. Speaking to the audience, Ajwad said the occasion supports the Saudi Green Initiative, which intends to plant 10 billion trees.
