SEOUL, South Korea: According to its neighbours, North Korea launched a ballistic missile toward the sea on Wednesday, marking the country’s second such weapons test in less than a week. The launch events were probably a protest against the impending military exercises between the US and Korea, which North Korea sees as a practice for an invasion.
Around six in the morning, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that it had detected a launch from North Korea’s eastern coastal Wonsan area into the country’s eastern waters. The South Korean military claimed to have strengthened its observation posture and that Seoul was closely communicating with Tokyo and Washington regarding the launch.
According to Japan’s Defence Ministry, it also observed what seemed to be a North Korean ballistic missile launch. It stated that the weapon was thot to have fallen farther away from the Japanese coast since it was unable to detect it entering Japan’s exclusive economic zone.
The most recent launch occurred two days after the United States and South Korea declared they will begin their yearly, extensive military exercises next week in order to strengthen their preparedness against North Korean threats.
