RIYADH: The UN Human Rights Council unanimously adopted a resolution on safeguarding children online, which was greeted by the Saudi National Society for Human Rights. According to the Saudi Press Agency on Tuesday, the organisation hailed it as a significant move that bolsters global efforts to protect children’s rights in the face of the increasingly complex digital environment.
It stated that the resolution demonstrates a strong commitment to protecting children’s rights in the digital realm and is in line with the worldwide campaign to safeguard children in cyberspace initiated by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
According to the society’s president, Khalid Al-Fakhri, the resolution creates an international framework to assist nations’ and communities’ efforts in this area and represents significant advancements in bolstering legal and preventative safeguards for children against digital dangers and abuses.
In addition to praising the Kingdom’s mission to the UN and international organisations in Geneva for its role in supporting and interacting with the resolution, he emphasised that safeguarding children’s rights is a fundamental goal that the community actively supports and promotes. According to the SPA, Al-Fakhri emphasised the necessity of combining national and international initiatives to promote human rights, especially children’s rights in the digital era.
