Saudi King and Crown Prince Extend Condolences to Pakistan Over Flood Tragedy

King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia expressed their condolences to Pakistan on Monday for the floods that hit the country’s north, leaving many dead, injured, and unaccounted for.

King Salman sent a letter to President Asif Ali Zardari expressing his “deepest condolences and sincere sympathy” to the victims’ families and the Pakistani people in general. He also prayed for the “safe return of the missing and speedy recovery of the injured. The Saudi Press Agency, or SPA, claims that Zardari received a similar cable from the crown prince.

According to Pakistani officials, at least 344 people died, primarily in the region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where heavy rains and cloudbursts caused severe flooding on Friday. Over 150 people were still listed as missing.

In Buner, rocks were carried by torrents of water that raced down from the mountains and smashed into homes like explosions, flattening them. Although there was an early warning system in place, the authorities said that the sudden downpour in Buner was so severe that the deluge hit before locals could be warned
