Trump Meets Tech Leaders: Why Elon Musk Was Missing

Trump Meets Tech Leaders

President Donald Trump welcomed a group of leading tech executives to the White House on Thursday, highlighting advances in artificial intelligence while underscoring the scale of corporate investments across the United States. This is taking our country to a new level,” Trump said as he sat at the center of a long table, surrounded by what he called “high IQ people.

The gathering reflected the ongoing, if sometimes uneasy, relationship between Trump and Silicon Valley leaders. While executives praised his focus on innovation and discussed ambitions for future technologies, Trump steered the conversation toward financial commitments, asking each participant how much their companies were investing domestically.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Apple’s Tim Cook each cited $600 billion, while Google’s Sundar Pichai noted $250 billion. Missing from the guest list was Elon Musk, a former Trump ally who parted ways with the president earlier this year. Representing a new face in the AI space was OpenAI’s Sam Altman, seated among the industry leaders.

Also present was Jared Isaacman, founder of Shift4, who once enjoyed Trump’s backing for NASA administrator before the nomination was withdrawn. The event capped a day that also featured the inaugural meeting of the White House’s Artificial Intelligence Education Task Force, chaired by First Lady Melania Trump, with several executives in attendance.
