RIYADH: Arab News celebrated its 50th anniversary on Sunday with a gala hosted by the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Saudi Arabia, where the newspaper’s founding brothers, Mohammad and the late Hisham Ali Hafez, were honored for their pioneering role.
During the event, a commemorative trophy was presented to economist and columnist Talaat Hafiz by Prince Turki Al-Faisal, Assistant Minister of Media Abdullah Al-Maghlouth, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Djibouti’s Ambassador Dya-Eddine Said Bamakhrama, along with Arab News Editor-in-Chief Faisal Abbas.
Prince Turki reflected on the birth of Arab News during the reign of his father, the late King Faisal, who had approved the idea before his death in 1975. He recalled working with the late Sheikh Kamal Adham and the Hafez brothers to establish the newspaper, which became Saudi Arabia’s first English-language daily.
For fifty years, this newspaper has been a moderate voice and a shining image of Saudi Arabia in English. Its success is the result of the tireless efforts of its dedicated team,” Prince Turki said. The evening also featured a significant announcement by Editor-in-Chief Faisal Abbas.
