Trump Declines to Use Nuclear Weapons on Iran

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump ruled out using nuclear weapons against Iran on Thursday, despite prior threats to obliterate Iranian civilization. “No, I would not use it,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

Why would I use a nuclear weapon when we could have annihilated them in a far more traditional way?” he asked. “No one should be allowed to use a nuclear weapon.” On April 7, Trump issued a genocidal threat to Iran, claiming that a “whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back,” but within hours consented to a cease-fire, which he has since prolonged in the war begun by the US and Israel.

During the crisis, Vice President JD Vance warned that the US was prepared to inflict additional damage on Iran with weapons not previously utilized, but the White House denied he was threatening nuclear strikes.

In fruitless negotiations, Vance pushed Iran for more concessions on its disputed nuclear program. Trump told reporters that he wanted an Iran “without a nuclear weapon that’s going to try and blow up one of our cities or the entire Middle East. Iran denies seeking a nuclear weapon, and the UN nuclear watchdog claims that an atomic bomb was not imminent prior to the war.
