SpaceX Expands AI Infrastructure Ties with Anthropic During OpenAI Court Clash

With the agreement to use Elon Musk’s SpaceX’s computer power, Anthropic has made peace with its former rival, which will help both businesses in the fiercely competitive fight for artificial intelligence.

Anthropic will utilize the whole processing power of SpaceX’s Colossus 1 facility in Memphis, Tennessee, which has over 220,000 Nvidia processors, as per the arrangement announced on Wednesday. This will provide the Claude chatbot manufacturer with 300 megawatts of more capacity in less than a month. As the Dario Amodei-led company works to increase the capacity of its Claude Pro and Claude Max AI helpers for subscribers, that is sufficient electricity to power over 300,000 households.

Because the project is expected to be highly capital-intensive and technically complex, the company said it is also interested in collaborating with SpaceX to build several gigawatts of space-based orbital data centers, one of Musk’s primary objectives and a key factor behind SpaceX’s initial public offering.

After meeting with Anthropic’s executives last week, Musk said in a statement on X that he decided to lease computing capacity to the company. He was impressed by their efforts to guarantee that Anthropic’s Claude AI is “good for humanity.
