BEIRUT: According to sources who spoke to Arab News, a scheduled virtual conference with military officials from Lebanon, Israel, and the United States to discuss the establishment of pilot zones in southern Lebanon was postponed on Friday.
In accordance with the framework agreement agreed in Washington on June 26, the meeting was supposed to concentrate on completing the pilot zones, establishing a schedule for Israel’s withdrawal, and increasing the deployment of the Lebanese army.
A Lebanese military source told Arab News, “It was supposed to take place today, but no time had actually been set for it, partly because of the time difference between Lebanon and the US.The insider claims that the meeting has been rescheduled for an unspecified future date.
The delay occurred when Lebanese army units increased their presence in southern Lebanon, setting up checkpoints and conducting patrols in towns near Israel’s alleged “Yellow Line,” including Froun, Ghandourieh, Qalaouiyeh, Burj Qalaouiyeh, and Kfar Dounine.
The army’s ability to deploy troops and set up monitoring and inspection posts in the region was perceived as demonstrated by the deployment, which was widely reported in Lebanese media. The military source stated, “We are present in these zones and have reinforced our deployment over the past two days to make it clear that we are on the ground and carrying out our mission.
