Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced on Thursday that they had prevented three oil tankers from travelling through the Strait of Hormuz. This comes as the United States and Iran compete for control of the region’s most important waterway.
Over the past few weeks, Iran has been attacking tankers that are traveling through the strait by way of a path that follows the Omani shore. This is being done in an effort to coerce vessels into utilizing its own waterways and pay for safe passage.
Three oil tankers, provoked and tempted by the American army that was killing children, were trying to pass through the mine-laid route south of the Strait of Hormuz,” the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement that was quoted by Iranian state media. “After one of them exploded and caught fire, the other two quickly turned around and turned back,” the statement read.
The powerful Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy emphasizes that the Strait of Hormuz is under our control and any ship that is deceived by the United States and intends to pass without coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran will suffer the same fate,” the statement added. The statement from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was issued shortly after the United States military began its 12th night of attacks, which targeted infrastructure and other targets in Iran.
