RIYADH: On Friday, the NCC MASA, a Saudi ship, was attacked in the Red Sea and suffered minor hull damage. According to the Saudi Press Agency, which cited an official source at the Kingdom’s General Transport Authority, it was able to proceed to its destination after inspections verified the ship and its crew were safe.
The event came after the Saudi-owned ship Encelia was attacked in the Red Sea late on Wednesday, resulting in a fire. The Houthi militia in Yemen declared on Monday that it will impose a naval blockade on the Kingdom, a move that drew harsh criticism from both regional and international nations.
Targeting commercial ships is “a violation of international laws” that guarantee the security of merchant ships and their workers, according to the Saudi source. The Houthi militia in Yemen announced this week that it was enforcing a naval embargo on the Kingdom in response to an attack on the Saudi-owned ship Encelia in the Red Sea two days prior, which resulted in a fire.
