JERUSALEM: Hezbollah, a militant organization supported by Iran, was accused by the Israeli military on Wednesday of a “blatant violation of the ceasefire” in Lebanon after firing a drone at an Israeli car there. According to the army, the event happened in a section of southern Lebanon that is roughly 10 kilometers (six miles) deep along the border with Israel and is under Israeli military control.
Hezbollah launched an explosive drone against an IDF engineering vehicle in the vicinity of Ali Al-Taher Ridge within the Security Zone overnight on Wednesday, according to a statement from the military, which described the event as “a blatant violation of the ceasefire.
“Continue to operate in the ridge area and will not allow terrorists in the area to advance or execute attacks against IDF soldiers,” the military stated. Hezbollah will be disarmed by Lebanon’s army under a US-sponsored deal agreed last month, and the Israeli military will leave “pilot zones” where Lebanese forces will subsequently deploy.
The agreement was reached more than three months after Hezbollah launched rockets at Israel on March 2 in support of Tehran, drawing Lebanon into the broader Middle East conflict and prompting significant Israeli airstrikes and a ground invasion.
