In honor of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday, the UAE has declared Friday, August 28, 2026, a holiday for both the public and private sectors. For UAE workers, who get official days off on Saturday and Sunday each week, this means a three-day weekend. Fridays are already off days for Sharjah public sector workers as part of their regular weekends.
It was previously anticipated that this year’s holy day would be observed on August 25. However, it is possible that the public holiday would be moved to August 24 (Monday), giving workers in the public and private sectors a three-day weekend.
In order to give individuals longer, continuous breaks, a new regulation that went into effect at the beginning of 2025 permits some public holidays to be moved to the beginning or end of the working week if they fall in the middle of the workweek. With the exception of Eid holidays, the UAE Cabinet has the power to move some midweek public holidays to the start or end of the week, giving citizens more time off.
