RIYADH: On Sunday, the Saudi civil defence agency issued a warning that warned of “potential danger” in the southern Jazan province along the border with Yemen. This province has been targeted by the Houthi militia in recent times. However, the agency later confirmed that the risk had passed.
According to the original statement released by the agency, A warning has been issued by the National Early Warning Platform in the Jazan Province to alert of a potential danger.” Similar warnings are typically made in advance of potential strikes that target a particular area.
The public should “continue following Civil Defence instructions and avoid gathering and filming,” according to a later advisory that was issued not long after the initial warning, which stated that “the danger has passed in Jazan Province.
Over the past few weeks, the Houthi militia in Yemen, which is supported by Iran, has increased the number of attacks that target locations within the Kingdom. A ceasefire that had been in place for several years in Yemen’s civil conflict between the Houthis and the government that is recognized internationally appeared to be breaking down last month.
