Three People Killed, Scores Wounded in Attacks on Riyadh, Abha Airports

RIYADH: Three people, including two women, were murdered and scores injured in attacks on two airports in Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said Wednesday. A Moroccan and an Algerian woman were slain in an attack on Abha International Airport in the southern province of Asir, bordering Yemen, on Tuesday.

The strike injured 28 individuals, some seriously, including a Bangladeshi and a Filipino, the official said. A Sudanese man was killed and eight others, including two Egyptians and a Pakistani, were injured in the attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport on Wednesday.

The administration said it rushed all the injured to hospital immediately. The two attacks also damaged the airports, which the authorities said it was trying to assess. The body said it will take all necessary measures to protect the safety of passengers and staff and maintain the security and safety of the civil aviation system in the Kingdom.

Saudi air defences intercepted a Houthi ballistic missile north of Riyadh on Wednesday morning, spokesman for the coalition to protect Yemen’s sovereignty said. Later in the evening, Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki said the launch pad used for the attack was destroyed in the Yemeni capital Sanaa. The terrorists were prepared to carry out an imminent attack against the Kingdom.
