US and Cuba Dispute At the UN Prior to a Sanctions Vote

On Monday, US diplomats held an event showcasing Cuban dissidents ahead of next week’s annual UN vote on a resolution calling for an end to the US embargo on the island, sparking allegations between the two countries.

Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, Cuba’s ambassador to the UN, and other delegates yelled at Mike Waltz, the US ambassador to the UN, as he exited the gathering at the UN headquarters, which centred on charges of human rights violations by the Cuban government.

Tensions between the two nations are increasing ahead of the voting on the non-binding resolution, which has passed by wide margins in the UN General Assembly every year since 1992. This comes amid mounting strain from the US-imposed oil blockade on Cuba.

I hope you noted the so-called diplomats from the Cuban embassy here that we allow here by dint of treaty, harassing, yelling, intimidating, and filming not only our just released former political prisoners but others,” Waltz said to reporters in New York.

“The Cuban regime’s annual resolution in the General Assembly perpetuates a lie.”The US delegation to the UN is exposing the lies used by the Cuban government to justify persecution and the suffering of its citizens.
