Over 25,000 individuals a year will receive medical assistance from the UAE’s newest humanitarian project, which is set to launch in Morocco and aid earthquake-affected regions of the Middle East and North Africa.
Aster Healthcare and UAE Red Crescent have introduced Asterians United, a mobile medical service unit. On Friday, the first convoy of relief vehicles departed the United Arab Emirates and headed for Taroudant, Morocco.
A minimum of one nurse, a driver, and a doctor will be present in every team car. The communities that are in need will receive direct access to the mobile medical vans for consultations, first-aid care, and other critical medical services.
Moroccan authorities and UAE Red Crescent officials have a memorandum of understanding that states that the initiative will operate for ten years and is subject to renewal.
When the initial outreach efforts in Morocco are completed, more relief missions will be sent to the area.
An earthquake that struck Morocco in September 2023 with a magnitude of 6.8 left thousands of people injured and facing ongoing challenges in accessing safe drinking water, adequate sanitation, and stable housing.
