AL-AHSA: The first yields of the fresh date harvest have arrived at central markets across Al-Ahsa Oasis, marking the beginning of a highly anticipated agricultural season that produces over 120,000 tons of dates annually from more than two million palm trees for distribution on a national scale throughout the Eastern Region and the wider Kingdom.
Due to the high summer temperatures that hasten early ripening, farmers are actively collecting more than 20 well-known date varieties. There is currently a process of sorting the early produce and selling it at different price points based on factors like as quality, size, color, and flavor profile.
Several strategic efforts have been implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, in collaboration with the Al-Ahsa Municipality and other relevant agencies, in order to guarantee the economic success of the crop.
Field teams are actively overseeing auction processes and developing targeted marketing platforms, such as seasonal date festivals and year-round farmers’ markets, to ensure ongoing market availability and to connect local producers with traders and customers seamlessly.
