Al-Khateeb: Saudi Arabia Spends More Than $500 Billion Creating Eco-Friendly Travel Destinations

DAVOS — Saudi Arabia has invested more than $500 billion in creating eco-friendly and creative travel destinations, as highlighted by Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb. He stressed the importance of the travel and tourist industry in promoting economic growth, diversification, and international cultural interchange while speaking at a session on broadening the scope of sustainable tourism, which was hosted at the Saudi House pavilion in Davos.

In the context of Vision 2030, Al-Khateeb emphasised the tourism industry’s outstanding accomplishments and commitment to environmental sustainability. He mentioned initiatives like The Red Sea and AlUla that demonstrate how sustainability is included into every phase, from planning to execution.

Reiterating the Kingdom’s pledge to plant millions of trees by 2030, he also mentioned the Saudi Green Initiative and Green Riyadh, which were started by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.

Al-Khateeb stated that the Kingdom is integrating sustainability into every facet of its tourism growth and is making bold yet ecologically responsible initiatives. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to attain net-zero emissions by 2060, emphasising that sustainability necessitates a concerted international effort to reduce escalating environmental threats.
