GAZA: According to the UN, an attack in the Gaza Strip claimed the life of an international staffer and injured five more. Although he would not identify the strike’s perpetrator, Jorge Moreira da Silva, head of the UN Office for Project Services, stated that the blast was not unintentional or connected to demining operations and that the explosive device was “dropped or fired.”
UNOPS undertakes demining, helps bring in gasoline, and runs the system that tracks relief trucks into Gaza. He did not disclose the nationalities of the deceased and injured.
The Israeli military rejected earlier claims that it had targeted the UN compound, despite launching a sustained barrage of airstrikes since early Tuesday. However, according to Moreira da Silva, strikes had occurred Monday close to the compound, Tuesday directly, and again on Wednesday, the day the staffer was killed.
According to him, the CIA had verified that it knew the location of the facility by getting in touch with the Israeli military following the initial hit. He claimed that Israel was aware that people were residing, working, and staying on UN property.
