RIYADH: According to official data, food, housing, and transportation cost reductions helped Qatar’s inflation rate drop 1.15 percent year over year in January, bringing the consumer price index down to 107.45 points. The most recent data from the National Planning Council states that the monthly CPI also decreased by 2.53%, mostly as a result of a drop in housing, water, electricity, and other fuels, all of which decreased by 2.53% from December.
According to Kamco Invest, the decline occurs while Qatar is expected to have the lowest inflation rate in the Gulf Cooperation Council this year, averaging 1.4 percent, which is lower than the GCC’s 1.9 percent and the Arab world’s average of 8.5 percent. According to a statement released in February, the International Monetary Fund projects that Qatar’s inflation will stabilize at about 2 percent over the medium term, bolstered by the growth of LNG, government investment, and a thriving tourism industry.
“Examining the key changes in the CPI for the month of January 2025 compared with the previous month, findings show five categories decreased, six categories increased, and stability in one category,” the National Planning Council study stated.
Recreation and culture witnessed the biggest monthly fall at 14.87 percent, while food and beverage prices fell 2.75 percent. The cost of furniture and household goods decreased by 0.77 percent, while the cost of clothing and footwear decreased by 1.13 percent. Additionally, the restaurant and motel industry saw a 0.55 percent decline. Price increases were noted in a number of areas, including transportation (up 0.61%), health (up 0.91%), and other goods and services (up 1.93%).
