A Brazilian Judge Has Issued an Arrest Warrant for Eduardo Bolsonaro, the Sibling of a Presidential Candidate

A warrant for the arrest of Eduardo Bolsonaro, one of the brothers of presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro, was issued by a Brazilian Supreme Court justice on Thursday in São Paulo. In June, Eduardo Bolsonaro was sentenced to four years in prison for lobbying the Trump administration.

During the trial of his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, for a coup attempt, Bolsonaro, a 42-year-old former lawmaker who resides in Texas and is a green card holder, was sentenced for lobbying to impose sanctions against members of the Brazilian government and implement higher tariffs on the country’s exports. The Associated Press’s request for comment was not promptly addressed by his attorney. Eduardo Bolsonaro’s conviction has never been the subject of any comments from members of the Trump administration.

The decision of Justice Alexandre de Moraes was rendered less than three weeks prior to the runoff for the presidency of the country, which was to be held between the incumbent, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and Flávio Bolsonaro, who secured the most votes in the first round on Sunday. Eduardo Bolsonaro has served as a critical intermediary between his brother and the Trump administration.
