BERLIN: One of the biggest mathematical competitions in the world, the Mathematical Kangaroo, attracted over 881,000 kids from over 12,600 schools nationwide. Bilal Kreidi, a 16-year-old Syrian student living in Germany, earned first place nationally.
The accomplishment didn’t end at the podium. Since then, Bilal has started an instructional TikTok channel where he shares simplified math courses at five different levels, from fifth grade to advanced secondary, gaining a lot of popularity among students who have trouble with the subject. Bilal told SANA on Tuesday, “My main objective is to help students understand mathematics and develop their skills.” He added that the positive reaction from viewers inspired him to continue.
Khaled Kreidi, his father, recalled the family’s journey since their arrival in Germany in 2015 and described a deliberate effort to assimilate into German society while maintaining the Syrian curriculum and Arabic at home. He pointed out that Bilal’s brothers all thrive academically, especially in arithmetic. The German press and the official media outlet of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, where the family resides, reported on her son’s victory, according to his mother Lucy Dabbagh.
