VALENCIA, Venezuela: Four employees reported on Monday that the 146,000-barrel-per-day El Palito refinery, located in the country’s central region, has resumed operation of its fluid catalytic cracker (FCC), which is essential for producing motor fuel.
Following twin earthquakes in late June that left the plant without power, the refinery has been gradually reactivating its operating units in recent days.
One of the employees stated, “The FCC is working and we are trying to boost (output),” noting that it took multiple attempts to get the unit operational and is currently processing about 35,000 bpd.
According to the nation’s oil ministry, fuel supply was assured throughout the weekend in every area, particularly in areas impacted by the earthquakes, such as coastal La Guaira state. Although lines for gasoline in front of stations have remained low, indicating adequate distribution, the government could not provide specifics regarding amounts.
The OPEC nation’s extensive energy infrastructure, which has enabled continuous oil production and exports, was not severely damaged by the earthquakes; but, power and water supplies continue to be the most impacted public services.
