RIYADH The unemployment rate among Saudi women has significantly decreased, standing at 13.7% in the fourth quarter of 2023. The percentage decreased from 16.3 percent in the third quarter of the year to 2.6 percent. Meanwhile, the rate of unemployment for Saudi men was the same as in the fourth quarter of the previous year, at 4.6 percent.
The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) published the Labor Market Publication for Q4 of 2023, which included this data. After declining by 0.7 percent to reach 5.1 percent in the third quarter of the year, the overall unemployment rate (for Saudis and non-Saudis) fell to 4.4 percent in the fourth quarter. The percentage of unemployed people or Saudis also decreased to 7.7 percent in Q4 compared to 8.6 percent in the previous quarter.
In the fourth quarter of 2023, there was a little decrease in the overall population’s labor force participation rate. Compared to the third quarter of 2023, when it stood at 60.9 percent, it decreased by 0.5 percent to 60.4 percent. The data also revealed a marginal shift of 0.3 percent in the overall Saudi population’s labor force participation rate from 51.6 percent in the third quarter of 2023 to 51.3 percent in the fourth quarter of the same year.
