In an International Competition, Saudi Math Students Win Ten Honors

The 36th annual Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad saw Saudi math students win ten awards, defeating stiff opposition from 38 other countries, the Saudi Press Agency announced late on Wednesday.

Against 345 other children, the Saudi team—represented by the Education Ministry and the King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba)—won two silver medals, five bronze, and three certificates of praise.

The medals of silver were accepted by Youssef Bakheet of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu’s educational directorate and Muath Al-Qahtani of the Eastern Province.

The recipients of the bronze medals were Ahmed Al-Shahri from Riyadh, Ahmed Khalawi from Jeddah, Fatima Bouali from Al-Ahsa, Mohammed Al-Ghamdi and Ilyas Al-Faraj from the Eastern Province.

The recipients of the praise certificates were Youssef Khalawi from Jeddah, Mohammed Hafez, and Abdul Salam Al-Salmi from Madinah.

Amal Al-Hazaa, the secretary-general of Mawhiba, stated that the country as a whole was proud of the win.

The participation at APMO was a component of the worldwide Olympiads program Mawhiba, which is organized in strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

It is one of 20 initiatives and activities that Mawhiba and the ministry give each year to gifted kids, including advanced curricula and enrichment opportunities.
