KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait has amended the executive regulations of its Foreigners’ Residence Law to grant 10-year residency permits without fees to people whose Kuwaiti citizenship has been revoked and their dependents, if they have returned to their original nationality or acquired another citizenship.
The modification, which was published in the official Kuwaiti gazette on Sunday, gives the director-general of the General Department of Residency Affairs the authority to set the conditions for issuing and renewing licenses. It also allows eligible residents to work in Kuwait in accordance with departmental requirements.
The reforms address the legal status of those affected by citizenship revocations and create standards for residency, renewal, and employment. The amendment also changes the restrictions for residents who stay outside of Kuwait, establishing a general maximum of six months while offering exemptions for particular categories.
These include children of Kuwaiti women who did not obtain citizenship through their mothers, property owners, investors covered by Law No. 116 of 2013, and other qualified residency holders. Under certain conditions, the General Department of Resident Affairs may authorize an absence of more than six months, as long as the resident permit is still valid.
Domestic servants are only allowed to leave Kuwait for four months at a time unless they have prior authorisation for a prolonged absence. The modifications aim to govern the resident status of the impacted groups while also defining the rules for residence, work, and time spent outside the nation.
