In Iraq, the Former Stronghold of Daesh, Nightlife now Reigns

MOSUL, Iraq A few years ago, the group of Iraqi women out for a night on the town would have likely faced harsh punishment if they had attempted to do this.

Before the terrorists were driven from their final significant stronghold in Iraq in 2017, the northern city was ruled harshly by the Daesh organisation.
After seven years, Mosul’s streets come to life at night and the people are learning how to enjoy themselves again.

Taha tells AFP that “there has been enormous change in Mosul.” Because of “the extremely stable security situation,” we now have freedom and nights out like this have become common.”

Families eager to take advantage of the newfound stability are drawn to the city’s amusement parks, new restaurants, and leisure cruises on the Tigris River. The 35-year-old mother wears an electric blue suit and says, “People wanted to open up (to the world) and enjoy themselves.

The orchestra consists of a violinist, an electric organist, and a darbouka (a goblet-shaped drum) player. A reign of pure terror was imposed by the terrorists in 2014 after they captured Mosul.
