Inflation in Qatar Drops to 0.24 Percent

RIYADH: According to the Consumer Price Index data, Qatar’s annual inflation rate decreased to 0.24 percent in December from 0.95 percent the month before. According to the most recent data from the National Planning Council, January had the greatest rate of inflation at 2.99 percent, while December had the second-lowest rate of the year, at 0.22 percent, behind July.

In December, Qatar’s inflation rate was still lower than its neighbours in the region. Oman’s September rate of 0.4 percent was still higher than Qatar’s most recent statistic, while Saudi Arabia’s 1.9 percent was the lowest among G20 countries but higher than Qatar. The general CPI increased by 0.87 percent in December, from 109.29 points in November to 110.24 points in December. Increases in a number of industries drove the price increase, although decreases in important categories kept total inflation in check.

Five major categories showed price increases in December compared to November. At 8.84 percent, the recreation and cultural sector experienced the largest increase, followed by the restaurant and hotel sectors at 1.50 percent. Furniture and domestic equipment increased by 0.16 percent, education by 0.55 percent, and clothing and footwear by 0.66 percent. In the meantime, four important industries saw decreases. Housing, water, electricity, and other fuels all had a 0.83 percent decline, while food and drink saw a 2.11 percent decline.
