Saudi Arabia Links 12 International Cities by Introducing MEDEX Service to Jeddah Port

RIYADH: The MEDEX shipping service at Jeddah Islamic Port has increased Saudi Arabia’s marine connection by connecting the Kingdom to 12 regional and international ports. According to a statement by the Saudi Ports Authority, or Mawani, the new route, run by international logistics company CMA CGM, links Jeddah to Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates, Karachi in Pakistan, and Colombo in Sri Lanka.

The action is a component of Mawani’s larger initiatives to enhance Jeddah Islamic Port’s operational effectiveness and elevate Saudi Arabia’s position in international port performance rankings Additionally, it supports the Kingdom’s National Logistics Strategy, which seeks to establish Saudi Arabia as a key logistics centre linking three continents by increasing the sector’s share of GDP from 6% to 10% by 2030.

“This service supports national exports, opens up new business opportunities, facilitates international trade, and strengthens the port’s competitive advantage,” Mawani stated.

Saudi Arabia’s dedication to enhancing regional and global connectivity is further demonstrated by the MEDEX service, the 19th shipping line to be introduced to Jeddah Islamic Port since the start of 2025.

The new service connects Jeddah to Barcelona and Valencia in Spain, Mundra and Nhava Sheva in India, Piraeus in Greece, Malta, Genoa in Italy, and Fos in France. It can carry up to 10,000 twenty-foot equivalent units.
