Saudi Arabia Promises to Invest $932 Million in 17 Al-Ahsa Tourism Projects

RIYADH: According to a senior official, Saudi Arabia has committed more than SR3.5 billion ($932 million) to the development of 17 tourism projects in Al-Ahsa, establishing the area as a major vacation destination in the Kingdom’s expanding travel industry. As part of his wider tour of Saudi areas, Tourism Minister Ahmed Al-Khateeb met with investors and businesspeople to discuss plans to improve the governorate’s tourism infrastructure.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the projects would increase the number of hotel rooms by over 1,800, utilizing the natural and cultural resources of Al-Ahsa to draw both domestic and foreign tourists.

The program is in line with the Kingdom’s National Tourism Strategy, which seeks to boost the tourism industry’s share of Saudi Arabia’s GDP from 6% to 10% and draw 150 million tourists a year by 2030.

Al-Khateeb emphasized the sector’s investment prospects while restating the ministry’s dedication to offering extensive services and infrastructure in order to promote additional private sector participation.

The minister stopped by the SR200 million Radisson Blu Hotel in Al-Ahsa as part of the tour. Supported by the Tourism Development Fund, the hotel, which has more than 180 rooms and occupies more than 10,000 square meters, is a model for future developments in the area since it blends local authenticity with worldwide luxury.
