Saudi Transport Minister Prioritizes Effortless Travel Experience During Inspection of Kingdom’s Busiest Airport

In an effort to ensure seamless travel experiences for visitors during the upcoming Umrah season, Saudi Transport Minister Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser conducted a thorough inspection of Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA), the busiest airport in the Kingdom. Emphasizing the smooth movement of travelers as a top priority, Al-Jasser, who also serves as the chairman of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), underscored the significance of effective operational plans during Ramadan 2024.

Ensuring Operational Efficiency for Umrah Season

During his inspection, Minister Al-Jasser reiterated the importance of facilitating hassle-free travel for pilgrims and guests arriving for Umrah. With the goal of enhancing comfort and convenience, Al-Jasser emphasized the need for meticulous coordination among over 27 governmental, security, and operational entities involved in executing the operational plans for the Umrah season.

Saudi Transport Minister-Impressive Passenger Statistics and Busy Terminals

As part of the inspection, Minister Al-Jasser and his accompanying officials reviewed the impressive passenger statistics of KAIA. From the beginning of Sha’ban to the 10th of Ramadan, the airport witnessed a significant influx of travelers, with a total of 5,420,419 arriving and departing passengers on board 30,572 flights. Notably, the airport’s busiest day last year occurred on the 21st of Sha’ban, with 157,800 passengers.

Comprehensive Inspection of Terminal Facilities

Accompanied by key officials including GACA President Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, CEO Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Mughlooth of MATARAT Holding, Chairman Raed Al-Mudaiheem of the Jeddah Airports Company’s board of directors, and Jeddah Airports CEO Mazen Johar, Minister Al-Jasser meticulously evaluated the operational procedures and passenger facilities across KAIA’s three terminals.

Focus on Baggage Handling and Passenger Lounges

The inspection commenced with a detailed overview of the baggage handling area, followed by visits to the air-conditioned lounges capable of accommodating up to 6,000 passengers per hour. Minister Al-Jasser paid special attention to Terminal 1, the Northern Terminal, and the Hajj Terminal Complex, ensuring that operational processes were optimized for peak seasons.

Reviewing Sorting Areas and Operational Centers

At the Northern Terminal, Minister Al-Jasser examined the expansive Sorting Area spanning 1,430 square meters, which includes a waiting area for 522 passengers. A comprehensive explanation of operational processes, particularly during peak seasons, was provided to ensure efficient passenger flow. Similarly, at Terminal 1, the minister inspected the 24,000-square-meter Sorting Area, a waiting area for 1,800 passengers per hour, and essential facilities such as parking for 83 buses.

Exploring Technological Advancements and Passenger Services

Minister Al-Jasser also visited the Operations and Control Monitoring Center to assess the airport’s technological infrastructure and capabilities. Additionally, he received briefings on the Automated Passenger Transport, Tourist Visa, and Transit Lounges, highlighting the airport’s commitment to enhancing the overall passenger experience through innovative solutions and services.
