The First Meeting of The Joint Cultural Committee is Chaired by Greek and Saudi Ministers

JEDDAH: On Wednesday, the first meeting of the Culture Committee of the Saudi-Greek Strategic Partnership Council was presided over by Saudi Culture Minister Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan and his Greek counterpart, Lina Mendoni. According to the Saudi Press Agency, the ministers emphasised the need of reviving the memorandum of agreement they signed in July 2022 and enhancing cultural collaboration between Riyadh and Athens. The committee will assist in achieving this, according to Prince Badr.

The ministers commended Athens’ hosting of the Saudi Cultural Week from September 27 to October 1, 2024, which featured films, traditional crafts, cuisine, Arabic calligraphy, and Kingdom fashion in addition to musical and dramatic acts.

The Benaki Museum in Athens is participating in the Islamic Arts Biennale, which started in January in Jeddah and runs through May, while Greece attended Saudi International Crafts Week in Riyadh in November 2024. Alexis Konstantopoulos, the Greek ambassador to the Kingdom, was among the other high-ranking Saudi and Greek officials who attended the committee meeting. Ministers commend the 2024 Saudi Cultural Week sponsored by Athens, which included the Kingdom’s music, theatre, cinema, crafts, cuisine, Arabic calligraphy, and fashion, saying it is crucial to improve cultural cooperation between the two countries and the committee would assist achieve this.
