The Growing Popularity of Manga and Anime in Saudi Arabia is a Cultural Revolution

RIYADH: Since the 1970s, Saudi Arabia has developed a growing interest in manga and anime, a trend that is revolutionizing the country’s cultural output.

These Japanese art forms have become increasingly popular in recent years, captivating audiences of all ages. Saudi Arabian society has developed a strong interest in them due to their ability to blend entertainment, culture, and education. Japanese graphic novels known as manga are different from Western comics in several ways, one of which is that they are meant to be read from right to left.

The General Entertainment Authority has been actively involved in planning events and exhibitions to support this developing culture. This includes the well-known Saudi Anime Expo, which draws tourists from all over the world and is the biggest event of its kind in the Middle East.

In addition, Riyadh’s “Anime Town,” which consists of four distinct areas and the Sakura Music Festival, which is held outside of Japan for the first time, has cemented its status as the largest anime city in the world.

The “Anime Village” event, which was held in Jeddah recently, drew a large crowd and featured a range of activities, such as cosplay contests, live performances, themed dining establishments, and movie screenings of the newest releases. Editor-in-chief of Manga Arabia magazine Nouf Al-Hussein voiced hope for the future of the regional sector.
