ANKARA/DUBAI/TEHRAN: Just hours after President Donald Trump said that a temporary deal to halt the conflict with Iran was “over,” the US military said on Wednesday that it was conducting new strikes on Iran in an effort to maintain the vital Strait of Hormuz open to traffic.
Trump threatened “much worse” if Tehran persisted in attacking ships in the crucial oil trading passage, the Strait of Hormuz, and ordered further strikes against Iran. Following the announcement by US Central Command of a fresh round of strikes, Iranian official television reported explosions in several areas along the southern Iranian shore.
According to Iran’s official news agency IRNA, explosions rocked the port cities of Bandar Abbas, Konarak, and Chabahar, some of which lost power, and warplanes were heard above Kish Island.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “This is retaliation for yesterday’s bombing of ships by Iran.” “It will get much worse if it happens again!” On Thursday morning, CENTCOM said that its most recent wave of airstrikes was over. US forces attacked almost 90 Iranian military targets, including air defense systems, coastal surveillance equipment, drone and missile storage facilities, naval capabilities, and military logistics infrastructure along Iran’s coastline, according to a statement from CENTCOM.
