CAIRO: As pressure mounted on both sides to restart talks to resolve the war, Egypt and Qatar called on the United States and Iran to resume talks on Friday, while the mediator, Pakistan, urged Tehran to protect the “hard-earned peace.
Although he reiterated that the ceasefire between the two nations was over, US President Donald Trump stated that Washington had decided to resume negotiations with Tehran. Attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz caused hostilities to escalate this week, resulting in a new round of US airstrikes against Iran and retaliatory strikes against Gulf Arab nations.
Since Iran and the US signed an agreement to work for an end to the dispute, the escalation threatened to undo the progress that had been made. According to a statement from Egypt’s foreign ministry, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Qatar’s prime minister and foreign minister, and Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s foreign minister, urged all parties to prioritize the language of diplomacy and dialogue and return to the negotiating table.
They also requested “implementing the Memorandum of Agreement signed between the US and Iranian sides, as a prelude to reaching a conclusion between the two sides, in a manner that facilitates de-escalation and strengthens regional security and stability the statement said.
