US–Iran Peace Deal Explained: How the Strait of Hormuz Crisis Finally De-escalated

ISLAMABAD: After more than three months of warfare, the United States and Iran have agreed to stop the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, providing relief to the world economy. Details on the transaction were not immediately available. Pakistan, the key mediator, stated that the signing will take place on Friday in Switzerland. Key issues, such as Iran’s nuclear program, are likely to be addressed later.

US President Donald Trump announced a compromise was made and claimed he had authorized the lifting of the US naval blockade of Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz, which had been imposed in retribution for Iran’s control of the vital waterway. Congratulations to all!” Trump tweeted on social media: “I hereby fully authorize the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade.”

The US has previously stated that as the strait reopens, it will remove its embargo of Iranian ports and agree to relax sanctions to let Iran to sell more oil and strengthen its devastated economy.

Iran’s deputy foreign minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, confirmed the agreement on state television, but said it would not be implemented until it was signed on Friday. He said the agreement came after 14 hours of talks in Tehran with a delegate from Qatar, another mediator.
