Putin claims that Saudi Arabia is “Sincere” and a “Suitable” Location for Prospective Peace Negotiations with Ukraine

Putin claims that Saudi Arabia

Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Friday that Saudi Arabia is “sincere” in its efforts and would be a suitable venue for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, but that such talks would require Ukraine to lift its prohibition on doing business with Russia.

In response to a question from Arab News, Putin stated at a press conference after the BRICS Business Forum was launched in the Russian capital that he was amenable to the idea of attending a peace conference hosted by Saudi Arabia. However, he added that although the Kingdom would be a suitable venue, the content of the talks would be more important than the setting.

In response to a query from Arab News Editor-in-Chief Faisal J. Abbas, he stated, “We would be okay with such measures being organised in Saudi Arabia as long as the location, the venue, is acceptable.”

Putin emphasised that any discussions should, however, be centred on earlier discussions, particularly the draft deal that was first negotiated in Istanbul in 2022 but that Ukraine allegedly later withdrew from.
