RIYADH: According to the Saudi Press Agency, the United States and Ukraine held talks in Jeddah on Tuesday to end the war with Russia. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman presided over the negotiations, which were attended by Musaed bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, Minister of State and Member of the Council of Ministers, and Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Kingdom’s Foreign Minister. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz represented the United States, while Andriy Yermak, the director of the Ukrainian presidential office, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov represented Ukraine.

According to SPA, the discussions are part of the Kingdom’s attempts to improve international security and peace as well as to end the Ukrainian situation, which it is able to accomplish through its balanced connections with different parties. According to SPA, they are founded on Saudi Arabia’s conviction that respecting international laws and standards is crucial and that communication is the best way to settle conflicts and unite opposing points of view.

Following a quick encounter with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman prior to the start of the negotiations, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky departed the Kingdom early on Tuesday morning. Following the conference, Saudi Arabia voiced its optimism that efforts would be successful in resolving the Ukrainian situation in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law, including respect for internationally recognized borders and sovereignty principles.
