LONDON: Video of the destruction inflicted by an Israeli bombing on the European Gaza Hospital near the southern city of Khan Younis on Thursday was made public by a British doctor in Gaza.
The footage, which was given with the BBC by specialist plastic surgeon Dr. Tom Potokar, shows the aftermath of an Israeli strike on the hospital. 28 people were killed when six bombs were dropped on the hospital.
Potokar, who has made 16 trips to Gaza to assist Palestinians who are stranded there, called the video a “snapshot” of his time spent working at the hospital. People were running and lying on the ground outside the hospital as he recounted a “absolutely massive strike … right in front of the emergency room” in the footage.
There is shrapnel all about. Destruction directly in the hospital’s courtyard. In the video, he stated, “Absolutely awful.” In further scenes that were characterised as “absolute mayhem,” Potokar moved through the hospital’s hallways while patients, medical staff, and other bystanders attempted to stop the assault.
As smoke billowed through the structure and screams reverberated in the background, he declared, “It’s a direct hit on the hospital. Potokar then turned the camera on himself while he was outside an operating room to examine the damage. He said that the institution was “too dangerous” to transport patients there for surgery and that staff members were fleeing to take cover elsewhere. He subsequently said that the facility had been completely evacuated.
