Australia Takes Issue With Netanyahu's "Weak Leader" Remark

Benjamin Netanyahu, the leader of Israel, came under fire from Australia on Wednesday for calling the prime minister weak. According to a key minister, strength is more than “how many people you can blow up. Australia has regarded Israel as a close friend for decades, but since Canberra declared last week that it would recognize a Palestinian state, the relationship has rapidly soured.

Netanyahu called his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese a “weak politician who betrayed Israel” on Tuesday night, sharply intensifying a verbal sparring match.

Tony Burke, the Australian Home Affairs Minister, stated on Wednesday that it was an indication of a disgruntled leader “lashing out. Burke told national network ABC that “the number of people you can blow up or the number of children you can leave hungry are not indicators of strength.”

Some of their actions have resulted in Israel’s continued isolation from the outside world, which is not in their best interests either. Following Netanyahu’s attack on him, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese declared on Wednesday that he respects foreign leaders.
