Pro-Palestinian demonstrations erupted worldwide on Tuesday as activists protested Israel’s ongoing military action in Gaza and marked the second anniversary of the Hamas attack that ignited the conflict.
In New York City, a group of Muslim demonstrators gathered and prayed outside the Trump Hotel, an event highlighted by the pro-Palestinian organization “Within Our Lifetime” on social media. Central London also saw several hundred protesters rally outside King’s College London, waving Palestinian flags and chanting slogans including, “Israel is a terrorist state.”
Similar rallies were reported in major cities across the globe, including Sydney, Istanbul, Paris, Geneva, Athens, Stockholm, and Washington, D.C., as well as in various locations in the Middle East. Protesters called attention to the escalating humanitarian crisis and civilian casualties in Gaza, demanding an immediate end to the violence.
Meanwhile, politicians and community leaders urged those attending the demonstrations to voice their concerns peacefully and to distinguish opposition to Israeli government actions from support for violence by Hamas. These calls for restraint came alongside ongoing indirect negotiations in Egypt over a U.S. proposal intended to halt the war and establish a path toward peace in the region.
