RAMALLAH: Israeli soldiers killed a man in the northern occupied West Bank on Friday, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry in Ramallah. Israeli fire killed 38-year-old Bahaa Abdel-Rahman Rashid in the town of Odala, south of Nablus,” the Health Ministry said in a statement.
The Palestinian Red Crescent reported just earlier that a man “who suffered a critical head injury during clashes in the town of Odala near Nablus, and CPR is currently being performed on him” was under the care of its personnel. According to the Israeli military, the incident is under investigation.
Muhammad Al-Kharouf, a resident of Odala and a witness, claimed that while Israeli troops were on patrol in Odala, they launched tear gas canisters at males leaving the local mosque for Friday prayer. Kharouf, who had been inside the mosque with Rashid, stated that he was killed by live fire during the ensuing skirmishes.
Six militants were slain and scores of suspects were questioned during a two-week counterterrorism operation in the northern West Bank, the Israeli military announced on Friday. According to the report, Rashid was not one of the six militants murdered in the previous two weeks.
