MADRID: During a meeting with Palestinian Authority leader Mahmud Abbas on Thursday, Spain’s prime minister urged the world community to “raise its voice” in order to keep the suffering of Palestinians from being forgotten.
Additionally, Madrid’s support for a two-state solution was reiterated by Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who called it “the only possible solution” to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He emphasized that attacks on civilians must stop and that the recent ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza must be genuine and not “fictitious.
As he stood beside Abbas in Madrid, the socialist prime minister declared, “The year 2025 has been terrible for the Palestinian people. Justice must be the foundation of true peace. Eventually, the perpetrators of this genocide will be held accountable.
Abbas expressed gratitude to Spain for acknowledging the State of Palestine in May 2024 and commended Madrid for spearheading the formation of a global alliance to broaden recognition. Additionally, he demanded that the violence in Gaza and the West Bank cease.
