Sudan’s Prime Minister Announces Government’s Return to Khartoum: What It Means

After formally beginning operations in the capital, Khartoum, the Sudanese government outlined its work goals on Sunday, prioritizing livelihoods, public security, peace, and the restoration of state institutions and essential services.

Prime Minister Kamil Idris told reporters at the Khartoum State Government headquarters that the government’s main goal is peace. “What we seek is a peace that Sudanese people accept, in the context of a war that was imposed on the country,” he stated.

Today, we return, and the Government of Hope returns to the national capital,” Idris said to reporters in Khartoum, which was devastated by the conflict between the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and the army. He declared, “We promise you better services, better healthcare and hospital reconstruction, the development of educational services, and to improve electricity, water, and sanitation services.

Following earlier announcements of plans to gradually reinstate state institutions, the government’s return is part of formal efforts to restore public services and administrative activities in Khartoum.
