Oracle Embraces AI While Workforce Declines by About 21,000 Employees

In fiscal 2026, Oracle’s overall employment fell by 13%, or over 21,000 workers, as the cloud computing behemoth continued to restructure its operations, in part due to the integration of AI. According to its annual report, released on Monday, the corporation employed 141,000 people as of May 31, 2026, down from roughly 162,000 during the same period last year.

According to the report, Oracle paid $1.84 billion in severance payments and other departure expenses associated with the restructuring activities in fiscal 2026, a substantial increase over the $374 million spent in the prior fiscal year.

Additionally, it stated in its filing that the workforce adjustments were made in response to a number of circumstances, such as acquisitions, performance concerns, management and product changes, and strategic shifts. The staff reduction comes after many reports earlier this year that Oracle was laying off thousands of employees. A request for comment was not answered by the corporation.

According to Layoffs, 196 IT companies have laid off over 119,800 workers so far this year, raising concerns about job losses brought on by AI disruption.FYI, a website that tracks job cuts across the industry Oracle, a longtime minor player in the cloud computing space, has recently inked large data-center agreements with OpenAI and Meta in an effort to more aggressively compete with rivals like Amazon and Microsoft.
