TEHRAN: As the Middle East conflict rekindled and attracted the Islamic republic’s proxies once again, the US military launched “powerful” strikes on Iran on Thursday in retribution for Tehran’s attacks on US sites in Jordan.
Hope for a return to talks was shattered by the first attacks following a nearly week-long pause in hostilities. According to US Central Command, the strikes are a powerful response to yesterday’s attempted Iranian attacks on US forces based in the Middle East.
The US ally Israel accused Iran-backed Hezbollah of violating the ceasefire, while Saudi Arabia and the US jointly announced strikes on militant bases in Iraq on Wednesday. Saudi Arabia, the largest oil exporter in the world, has been reporting drone strikes on crude installations for the past two days, which it attributes to Tehran-aligned Iraqi armed groups.
Iranian state media later reported an American attack close to the Islamic republic’s border with Iraq, while Iran launched missiles toward US ally Jordan. We’ll be hitting them hard.
