NEW YORK: The UN Security Council warned on Friday that Houthi missile attacks against Saudi Arabia and commercial ships, as well as unapproved aircraft landings at Sana’a International Airport and Hodeidah Airport, pose a threat to regional security and could jeopardize peace efforts in Yemen.
They denounced the unapproved landings of Iranian aircraft at Sana’a International Airport on July 3 and Hodeidah Airport on July 13, claiming that they violated international civil aviation regulations by happening without authorization or clearance from the Yemeni authorities.
Members of the council also denounced Houthi missile assaults against commercial ships since July 22 and Saudi Arabia since July 13. Members emphasized that all flights to Yemeni airports must be coordinated with and have prior consent from the Yemeni government, reiterating their strong support to Yemen’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity.
They emphasized the necessity of coordinating with the government and adhering to international law and civil aviation regulations in order to guaranty safe, secure, and sustainable air access for both humanitarian and civilian needs.
